Patrice Bergeron Signs 8 Year Contract Extension With Bruins

PB1

Via CBS Boston:  “Patrice Bergeron and the Boston Bruins agreed to a eight-year contract extension through the 2021-22 season on Friday, meaning the 27-year-old will likely finish career playing for just one franchise.  Bergeron’s new contract will have an annual cap hit of $6.5 million.”

I guess 8 must be the lucky number in Boston these days.  Overall it looks like 8 years and $52 million for Bergeron.  The Bruins aren’t screwing around this offseason.  They’ve made it apparently that locking up their cornerstones is a priority.  Unfortunately it’s been made very apparent that Tyler Seguin was shipped off because if they were going to pay him the money they owed him they felt they needed more from him and they weren’t getting that.  It’s a bit unfortunate, but what’s done is done.  Let’s celebrate the fact that we just extended a guy who pretty much would lay his career on the line for a chance to win the cup.  This guy is a straight up bad ass who I will roll with any time, any place.  The Bruins may have let a few names leave but they’ve done a pretty good job of ensuring lines 1-3 are solid, our goal tending is locked in and our defense has some really talented young pieces.  I like this team going forward and ensuring that Bergeron will be here for most likely the rest of his career is a really good thing.
