Kid With Cancer Names His Cancer Michigan And Then Beats The Hell Out Of That Cancer

Cool story from Yahoo Sports:  “What would it take for Michigan fans to get behind an Ohio State supporter trying to beat Blue? Meet Grant Reed, a Buckeyes fan who even that school from up north would happily rally behind.

When Reed, 12, was diagnosed with a brain tumor two years ago, he decided to give the cancer a name: Michigan. Grant’s parents met as members of the Ohio State marching band and their love of the Buckeyes was passed down to Grant and his brother Collin.

Grant was released from Nationwide Children’s Hospital last week after completing his final chemotherapy treatment. The diagnosis is good, but he will return every three months for an MRI.

“We’ve beat Michigan for the short term,” Grant’s father Troy told NBC4 in Columbus, “but like any rival, there’s a chance it can come back.”

You have to be a fan of any 12 year old overcoming cancer but it’s even better when he gets creative and brings sports into his fight.  I’m not an OSU fan, but I have a lot of friends who are Michigan State fans so any time Michigan can be beat it’s a good thing.  Just another example of how awesome sports can be.  This young man fought cancer through sports and came out on top.  Here’s hoping his cancer is gone for good.
